Tom Delay is Still Alive, FYI

Tom Delay is still firing political missiles into the fray from his blog over at TomDelay.com. Today he posted about Congress’s pork-barrel spending and cited an article from the folks at FreedomWorks. Tom drew particular attention to a few earmarked items in the bill:

$21.4 million for a program educating older adults on a healthy lifestyle,

$8 million for wastewater facilities in rural communities,

$5.4 million for grants to nonprofits to assist welfare recipients

$300,000 to fund a West Los Angeles College’s program for aspiring film directors.

$21.4 Million for teaching old people how to stay healthy? Wow, I can’t think of too many pieces of spending that I would support more than that one. Wastewater facilities for rural Americans? Heavens, we wouldn’t want people in rural communities (Delay’s base) to have clean water, that would be terrible. Tom links to more ‘fiscal attrocities’ here but they look pretty legit to me. Here are a few:

$420 million for public broadcasting

$93.7 million for the Office of Civil Rights

$71.6 million for immigrant education and literacy

$60.7 million for the National Technical Institute for the Deaf

$264.8 [million?] for Library Services

$1.9 billion for low-income energy assistance programs

$2.1 billion for child care grants

$17.5 million for the American Printing House for the Blind

Some of the expenditures are a little suspect, like $3 million to ‘increase support for Congress’, but all-in-all, this looks like a pretty legit appropriations bill. You can find information about the bill here and a PDF of the House version here. Maybe Tom should stick to lobbying- his political opinions are getting more and more outrageous.
