FreedomWorks Ad Campaign Targets Key Senators on Stimulus

This week FreedomWorks unveiled an ad campaign targeting Sens. Olympia Snowe (R-ME), Susan Collins (R-ME), George Voinovich (R-OH), and Mitch McConnell (R-KY) over how they will vote on the more than $1 trillion stimulus plan now before the U.S. Senate.  These print ads, scheduled to run in targeted newspapers in each senator’s state, highlight the potentially devastating economic impact that the proposed stimulus plan threatens and urges them to oppose it.

An excerpt from the ad relays that this legislation:

  • Has already been met with bipartisan opposition in the U.S. House, with both Republicans and fiscally moderate “Blue Dog” Democrats voting against it.
  • Would cost an average of more than $10,000 per American family.
  • According to the Federal Reserve, would exceed all the cash in the country.
  • Carries a price tag bigger than the economies of Saudi Arabia and Iran combined.

Sens. Snowe, Collins, Voinovich, and McConnell have all claimed that they want to stop out of control spending and safeguard taxpayers.  The bloated stimulus plan now before them is a key test of their commitment to fiscal responsibility, and these ads serve as a reminder that taxpayers in their states will be closely watching.

The campaign is part of FreedomWorks’ larger effort to stop the stimulus package that to date has included thousands of calls and emails from FreedomWorks volunteer activists into the offices of targeted lawmakers as well as one-on-one district office visits.

FreedomWorks is a grassroots organization with over half a million volunteer members nationwide fighting for lower taxes, less government, and more freedom.
