FreedomWorks Calls for Transparency on Gigi Sohn’s Nomination to the Federal Communications Commission

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to Senate Commerce Committee Ranking Member Roger Wicker’s call for new hearings on Gigi Sohn’s nomination to be a Commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“From the moment President Biden nominated Gigi Sohn to be a FCC Commissioner, Americans knew that the FCC would be ushering in an era of big government and swampy politics. That’s why FreedomWorks activists have highlighted their concerns to their Senators throughout Sohn’s confirmation process."

“Now, new reports raise questions about Sohn’s ethics and integrity. She signed a confidential, $32 million settlement with broadcasters as a result of her participation in Locast, an illegal streaming service that violated copyright law. Instead of being transparent with the American people and their Senators about her potential conflicts, Sohn is working behind closed doors on a potential deal to recuse herself from a whole host of issues important to the FCC, including retransmission consent and intellectual property."

“Senators should be extremely concerned with the ethical issues that are clouding Sohn’s nomination. Americans deserve transparency, and we fully support Senator Wicker’s call for a new hearing ‘to ensure that there is a clear understanding of the ability for this nominee to act without any cloud of ethical doubt.’”
