FreedomWorks Foundation Responds to Proposed E-Cig Ban

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to FDA Commissioner Gottlieb’s comments at last week’s FDA hearing, which neglected to provide for a defined period of time for oral public comment presentations, Patrick Hedger, FreedomWorks Foundation Director of Policy, commented:

“Government officials never seem to understand how much damage they’re capable of causing while acting even on the best of intentions. Commissioner Gottlieb’s comments about banning e-cigarettes and other reduced-risk nicotine products will undoubtedly chill desperately needed investment and innovation in this industry.

“The law instructs FDA to work with industry to maximize the undeniable public health benefits of providing cigarette smokers with less-harmful alternatives. The FDA is currently ignoring the law and kowtowing to political pressure from prohibitionists who have made perfect the enemy of the good. Being an independent agency means FDA should execute the law without fear of this kind of pressure, not ignore the law and go rogue against lawful companies.”
