FreedomWorks Hails House Passage of the Midnight Rules Relief Act

Following the passage of the Midnight Rules Relief Act, H.R. 21, in the House of Representatives, FreedomWorks CEO Adam Brandon commented:

“The regulatory state – an unconstitutional fourth branch of government – is a growing threat to the American economy. The EPA alone has promulgated $1 trillion worth of rules in the past ten years, 75 percent of which came under the Obama administration. Congress has the opportunity to reclaim its legislative authority by directly challenging federal bureaucrats through legislation that curtails the power wrongfully claimed by the executive branch. The Senate can also combat the regulatory state by confirming President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet and executive-level nominees, many of whom, including EPA administrator nominee Scott Pruitt, believe that federal regulatory agencies must be reined in.”

“The Midnight Rules Relief Act simply allows lawmakers, to reject multiple rules under the Congressional Review Act through a single resolution of disapproval. This bill passed the House in November. Unfortunately, it never received a vote in the Senate. President-elect Trump has made regulatory reform a centerpiece of his agenda. We hope the Senate will move the Midnight Rules Relief Act and other regulatory reform proposals after the new administration takes office.”
