FreedomWorks Lifts Key Vote On Speaker Vote

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to news that Speaker-designate Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif) has made concessions to the House Freedom Caucus in the race for Speaker of the House, FreedomWorks has lifted its key vote against a vote for Speaker-designate McCarthy. Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“FreedomWorks has lifted its key vote alert on its congressional scorecard pertaining to the vote for Speaker of the House.”

“In recent days, members of the House Freedom Caucus have extracted key concessions from Speaker-designate Kevin McCarthy, among these are:

  • The Motion to Vacate the Chair by one member of the House of Representatives
  • Open rules on appropriations bills
  • Non-establishment representation on key committees

“The Representatives-elect who withheld their vote from McCarthy until key concessions were made on process, spending, and accountability deserve Americans’ praise. The problems with federal spending and the national debt are rooted in how the House of Representatives has operated over recent decades.

“While details continue to be deliberated on McCarthy’s campaign to 218 votes; today represents a step in the right direction to changing the way business is conducted in Congress.”
