FreedomWorks Names Member and Bill of the Month for February 2022
WASHINGTON, D.C. — This week FreedomWorks announced Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) as our featured Member of the Month and a bill to prohibit the Federal Reserve from issuing a Central Bank Digital Currency (H.R. 6415), introduced by Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), as our Bill of the Month for February 2022.
On her selection as FreedomWorks’ Member of the Month, Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) commented:
“I’m proud to fight for the rights of the people of Wyoming every day. Whether working against President Biden’s anti-energy policies, or wasteful government spending, not a day goes by that my team and I do not look for ways to defend the Wyoming way of life and the freedoms of the American people. I am also honored to work with my colleagues to bring our financial system into the twenty-first century by incorporating digital assets fully into our federal regulatory framework. America is the global financial leader, and if we want to stay in that position, we need to be open to new ideas and embrace advances like this. As I fight for limited government, I am always happy to know that my allies at FreedomWorks are with me every step of the way.”
On selection of his bill to prohibit the Federal Reserve from issuing a Central Bank Digital Currency (H.R. 6415) as FreedomWorks’ Bill of the Month, Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) commented:
“My bill, which prohibits the Fed from issuing a central bank digital currency directly to individual Americans, is a statutory prohibition on a surveillance tool that could be used to kill private sector innovation and deflate the dollar’s dominance. Financial freedom is American freedom, and as we see other democracies weaponize the payment trails to suppress free speech, it is more important than ever that we ensure that the United States continues to lead global crypto innovation by prioritizing technology that is open, permissionless, and private.”
