FreedomWorks Names Member and Bill of the Month for March 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. — This week, FreedomWorks announced Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) as our Member of the Month and a resolution on unspent COVID-19 stimulus funds, S.Res. 88 and H.Res. 127, introduced by Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) and Rep. Jason Smith (R-Mo.) as our Bill of the Month for March 2021.

Cesar Ybarra, FreedomWorks Senior Director of Legislative Affairs, commented:

“Ranking Member Comer has demonstrated strong leadership as the lead Republican on the House Oversight and Reform Committee. FreedomWorks looks forward to continued work with Representative Comer and like-minded Members of the Committee to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal bureaucracy.

“The resolution put forth by Sen. Scott and Rep. Smith would provide the American people with much needed transparency on what COVID-19 relief funds are being used. We commend Sen. Scott and Rep. Smith for their hard work combatting government waste and for holding the government accountable. We hope that other members of Congress will support S.Res.88 and H.Res.127.”

Of his selection as FreedomWorks’ Member of the Month for February 2021, Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), commented:

“The Oversight and Reform Committee reports to hardworking taxpayers to ensure their investment in the government is spent efficiently, effectively, and transparently. As Ranking Member of the Oversight Committee, my number one goal is to root out government waste, fraud, and abuse and identify solutions to prevent abuses from being repeated. I appreciate the recognition of FreedomWorks and its support for our Committee’s mission as we work to improve our federal government for all Americans.”

Of S.Res.88 and its selection as Bill of the Month, Sen. Scott (R-Fla.) commented:

“Congress has the responsibility to thoroughly review how every single tax dollar is spent by the federal government and make sure that we are spending wisely and making informed decisions. That’s exactly why I introduced my resolution calling on President Biden to inform the Senate of how much unspent funds are leftover from the previous COVID spending bills, so Congress could be sure we are providing targeted relief where it’s needed most.

“Unfortunately, Democrats blocked the passage of this simple measure of transparency, denying the Senate important information. For too long, Congress has spent with reckless abandon, and now Democrats are spending trillions of taxpayer dollars and leaving our nation in a federal debt crisis that will have serious impacts on our future generations. I will always work to bring more transparency, information, and fiscal responsibility to the American people.”

Of H.Res.127 and its selection as Bill of the Month,Rep. Smith (R-Mo.) commented:

“It was absolutely irresponsible for Washington Democrats to jam through nearly $2 trillion in additional spending when approximately $1 trillion in funds for the COVID-19 response remain unspent. It was further evidence of a purely partisan effort on the part of Washington Democrats to spend hard-earned taxpayer dollars on a political agenda rather than focusing on helping America’s working class. At the very least, President Biden should welcome this opportunity to be transparent and accountable to the American people before continuing to saddle them with trillions more of debt.”
