FreedomWorks Statement in Response to August CPI Increase

Graph of U.S. dollar inflation rate behind Pres. Joe Biden.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the report today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BOL) that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 0.1 percent in the past month of August 2022, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“American workers, families and businesses are hurting with stagnant, high prices and depressed wages. After showing no increase in July, CPI is once again on the rise. However, The Biden Administration sees this as an opportunity to take a victory lap after the passage of the misnamed Inflation Reduction Act, which we all know will do the opposite and increase inflation through reckless spending.”

“Once again, the Biden White House is clearly more interested in appeasing radical elements of the Democratic base than sticking up for everyday Americans struggling to make ends meet due to higher food and shelter costs. Republicans would do well to drive this point home in the final two months before Election Day. Forget Biden’s insane rhetoric– Republicans must make all Democrats defend Biden’s failed economic agenda.”
