FreedomWorks Statement in Response to Abuse of Power by Capitol Police

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to recent reports that show that the United States Capitol Police have begun to arbitrarily look into the online presence of private citizens who meet with their Member of Congress, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“This is a gross infringement of Americans’ Fourth and First Amendment rights. Americans who wish to meet with their elected officials in Washington should be free to do so without law enforcement digging through all of their online records. This sets a dangerous precedent. Even left-leaning groups such as the ACLU and Brennan Center recognize how radical this practice is."

“Congressional Republicans, should they regain their majorities this November, must promise the American people that they will end such perverse practices. Americans will surely hold them accountable at the ballot box if they fail to protect their constituents.”
