WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) rolling out her drug pricing proposal, which includes price controls, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:
“This drug pricing proposal by Speaker Pelosi is a perfect example to show why nothing substantive gets done in Congress. Rather than carefully address this issue in a manner beneficial for American families, policymakers on the left would rather have the heavy hand of government set prices, ignoring the unintended consequences that will surely follow. For almost every commodity for which the government sets rates, there are scarcity issues. Prescription drugs would be no different. This is especially dangerous when access to these medications are literally a matter of life and death.
“There are a number of reasonable, common sense solutions to address the high cost of prescription drugs. The administration’s rebate reform proposal, as well as a number of similar bipartisan proposals in Congress are among them. This issue is too important to too many American families to implement a poorly designed solution that would dismantle the free market in the process.”
