FreedomWorks Statement in Response to NYC Mandating Proof of Vaccination

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to Mayor Bill de Blasio’s announcement that New York City will begin mandating proof of vaccination for indoor dining, gyms, and entertainment venues on August 16, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“Requiring proof of vaccination to participate in normal life sets a terrible precedent. This is a poor decision that brings us one step closer to unrestrained government control over the free market, but worst of all, people.

“Ironically, this mandate hurts the same people who Democrats so disingenuously claim to want to help. According to NYC Health, only 31 percent of black NYC residents have been fully vaccinated and only 42 percent of Hispanic residents have been fully vaccinated. In reality, this mandate will kill businesses and hurt the ability of many New Yorkers to provide for themselves and their families.

“I wonder: Will the Democrats who run New York City require proof of vaccination at the polls? Or is there a difference between proof of vaccination I.D. and government issued I.D. that they have labeled ‘Jim Crow 2.0?’”
