FreedomWorks Statement in Response to President Trump’s 2019 State of the Union Address

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to President Trump’s State of the Union address tonight, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“Tonight the President spoke of eradicating diseases that have plagued humanity. Count socialism among them. As the President stated directly, socialism has no place in the United States and runs counter to our founding principles.

“President Trump was absolutely correct tonight to highlight the free market policies he advanced during his first two years. The U.S. economy is booming thanks to his pro-growth agenda replete with tax cuts and deregulation.

“We applaud President Trump’s commitment to strong economic growth, particularly in terms of deregulation. He also focused on growth in America’s energy sector. Roughly one third of our country’s energy resources are within federally owned lands that the Trump Administration has opened for use. We are now a net exporter of energy, finally making American energy independence a reality.

“In 2018, the President took the law and order movement in a bold new direction by signing the First Step Act, proving that to be smart on crime is to be tough on crime. We hope President Trump will continue to push for more reforms to the criminal justice system and second chance initiatives in the future.

“American consumers and businesses have been hurt by the ongoing uncertainty surrounding global trade. The decision by President Trump to negotiate an agreement with Canada and Mexico is a step in the right direction to alleviate the problems caused by tariffs and protectionism, and there is still much that can be done.

“President Trump’s agenda has already benefited Americans from all walks of life, across the board. We look forward to supporting his agenda in areas that promote the values intrinsic to the American way of life– economic freedom and individual liberty.”
