FreedomWorks Statement in Response to Proposed Omnibus Package

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the $1.5 trillion dollar omnibus package proposed by Democrats earlier this morning, and ahead of today’s vote, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“With inflation on the rise to record levels, Democrats are trying to pull a fast one on the American people. It is wholly irresponsible for Congress to pass such a reckless omnibus spending bill. Americans are getting hit hard at the gas pump and at the grocery store thanks to President Biden’s failed energy policies and runaway spending.”

“No member of Congress has read this bill. This alone should be sufficient for every lawmaker to vote against this bloated piece of legislation. Now is not the time to be increasing funding for bureaucratic agencies; in fact, we should be reining in their spending and regulatory authorities.”

Steve Moore, FreedomWorks Senior Economist, commented:

“After trillions of dollars in debt spending to fund Covid relief over the past two years, and the pandemic in retreat, Congress should be cutting government spending from our $6 trillion budget. This bill expands domestic and defense spending and widens the budget deficit. It provides tens of billions more for domestic Covid programs even though hundreds of billions in previously authorized funding has not been spent.”

“If Biden and Democrats are serious about passing emergency funding for Ukraine, they should not be holding it hostage as part of their social spending wish list. However, this omnibus bill does exactly that.”
