FreedomWorks Statement in Response to Recent Rule Change Regarding Organ Procurement Organizations
WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the Trump administration’s recent rule change regarding Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs), Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:
"Today’s action by the Trump administration is a huge step towards bringing Organ Procurement Organizations back into regulatory compliance. We applaud this long awaited move that will bring much needed accountability to a neglected portion of our healthcare system.
"For far too long, organ procurement in our country has been plagued with fraud, waste, and abuse, affecting the lives and health of thousands of Americans every year. OPOs have been given carte blanche for over thirty years; as a result, patients have died. Today’s announcement is a signal to OPOs that they will no longer be allowed to operate with impunity. Patients deserve a high-functioning organ donation system, which means immediate implementation of today’s Rule and much needed congressional oversight into the government contractors responsible for honoring organ donors’ wishes."
