FreedomWorks Statement In Response to Trump Administration’s Interest Towards Instituting Organ Procurement Organization Reforms
WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the Trump administration’s interest towards instituting reforms to Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs), Jason Pye, FreedomWorks Vice President of Legislative Affairs, commented:
"Every day, 33 Americans die waiting for an organ transplant while Washington bureaucrats are asleep at the wheel. Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs), lacking any form of real constraint, have been allowed to operate in a system rife with waste, fraud, and abuse. Fortunately, the Trump administration and their allies have begun to take action. The decision by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services to revise their data collection methods to more accurately reflect expected donation rates is one such positive reform directed at fixing underperforming OPOs. We are glad to see the administration take the first steps towards meaningful reform and anxiously await further progress."
