FreedomWorks Statement in Response to U.S. Median Income Reaching a Record High and the Poverty Rate Falling in 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C.– In response to the U.S. Census Bureau’s report that U.S. median income has increased 6.8% from $64,324 in 2018 to $68,703 in 2019 and that the poverty rate has decreased 1.3% from 11.8% to 10.5%, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“This report goes to show that the U.S. pre-pandemic economy was the strongest we’ve seen in years. After the Obama-era slump of stagnated economic growth due to anti-business policies, the Trump Administration’s tax cuts and deregulatory agenda paved the way for job creation and a historic economic boom. This is what happens when businesses are free to operate and innovate without the government inhibiting growth.

“Free-market economic policies work, and these numbers prove it. When the economy is free to thrive, Americans prosper as well. To continue getting our country’s economy back on track to its pre-pandemic highs, the government needs only to get out of the way and let the free market operate.”
