FreedomWorks Urges Schools to Reopen to In-Person Learning

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the Center on Reinventing Public Education’s (CRPE) report, which urges schools to reopen following studies into the safety of in-person learning and repercussions of continued remote learning, Laura Zorc, FreedomWorks Director of Education Reform, commented:

“This report confirms what we already knew from CDC reports: It is safe for students to return to the classroom. After examining 120 studies on the safety of school reopenings, this report concludes that the risk school closures pose to children’s mental, emotional, and intellectual health far outpaces the risk of COVID-19 transmission in the classroom.

“As we approach the year anniversary of schools being closed, the achievement gap crisis is weighing more heavily than ever on our nation’s children. Teachers unions are not following the science–they’re exercising political power and using children as leverage. How much longer do governors and school superintendents expect students and parents to suffer before they reopen schools once and for all?”
