John Boozman’s Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Following a report that Sen. John Boozman (R-Ark.) opposes President Barack Obama’s Supreme Court nominee despite a planned meeting, FreedomWorks CEO Adam Brandon commented:

“Words matter, actions matter, and right now John Boozman’s actions aren’t lining up with his words. If you oppose something, such as a Supreme Court nominee by a lame duck president in a presidential election year, why are taking an action to increase its likelihood? The White House is banking that meetings lead to hearings. Republican senators should not help the White House by meeting with the nominee.”

“A little more than two weeks ago, Boozman vowed to join his Republican colleagues in the Senate and oppose any Supreme Court nominee while this president is in office. Now he is meeting with the nominee. It makes no sense. This is not the time for squeamishness or timidity. Surrendering to this president on the Supreme Court would create more anger and alienate conservative grassroots activists, the very people Republicans count on to win elections. This is a time for Republicans to show a backbone, stand up to this president, and fight for the issues their constituents care about.”
