National School Choice Week: FreedomWorks Activists Highlight Homeschooling

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In celebration of National School Choice Week, FreedomWorks is amplifying activists’ calls for stronger school choice legislation by raising awareness of nontraditional education options. On the option of homeschooling, Laura Zorc, FreedomWorks Senior Advisor of Education Policy Reform and Parent Led Advocacy, commented:

“Homeschooling is the oldest form of education in America, and over the last decade, it has grown in respect based on the quality of education children are receiving in the home setting. Homeschooling, unlike virtual or distance learning, is an education option that allows parents the freedom to choose the curriculum and teaching methods that suit their children best. For a variety of reasons many homeschool parents are part of co-ops that allow children to maintain social interaction with peers. At the same time, homeschooling allows for subject matter experts to teach course content with less constraints. Additionally, as more and more Americans become aware of the political bias curriculum being taught in public schools, parents are increasingly opting to homeschool.”
