Real Discussion on Economy Needed in Tonight’s Vice Presidential Debate

Ahead of the first and only vice presidential debate between Gov. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) and Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), FreedomWorks CEO Adam Brandon commented:

“Americans are concerned about the economy and opportunity for themselves, as well as for their children. There is a sense today that America’s best days are behind us. Who can blame them? Economic growth is stagnant, having been stuck below 3 percent annually since 2006, and many people haven’t experienced a personal economic recovery, years after the Great Recession officially ended.”

“Friedrich Hayek once wrote, ‘The curious task of economics is to demonstrate to men how little they really know about what they imagine they can design.’ President Obama’s Washington-driven economic and regulatory polices – which increased the size and scope of the federal government – have hurt economic growth and exposed the follies of central planning and bureaucracy.”

“What I hope to hear tonight is a real discussion on the economy that offers a clear distinction between the two campaigns. Americans want to know if the policies of the next administration will double down on the failed policies of the past eight years or return to the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation that has turned America into an economic powerhouse and the envy of the world.”
