This budget resolution from Senator Sanders throws fiscal responsibility out the window. Filled with high-priced left-wing projects, this radical budget resolution would run a deficit of $1.3 trillion in a year where the national debt is expected to eclipse $30 trillion. To make matters worse, the farther out you go, the worse this budget gets. In a time when we should be reining in the gross overspending from the federal COVID-19 response, outlays will far outpace revenues, meaning record-breaking deficits from here on out.

Secretary Yellen told the House Ways and Means Committee that she staunchly opposed Modern Monetary Theory. The reality is that we are already living it. The fact that this budget allocated $373 billion just to service the net interest on the national debt in FY 2022 — and over $1 trillion for this purpose by FY 2031 — should be the only red flag needed to vote down Senator Sanders’ budget resolution.

Senate Democrats want to pass this boondoggle of a budget without any input from Senate Republicans, but then want Senate Republicans to turn around and vote for raising the debt ceiling to pay for the Democrats’ reckless spending. Medicare alone will cost $770 billion, nearly as much as national defense. Health and Income Security, the largest part of this resolution each spend approximately $850 billion. Republicans should reject this social welfare legislation and work towards real solutions to get our fiscal house back in order.

By a party-line vote, Senate Democrats are looking to push through a laundry list of left-wing initiatives that include universal pre-k, two years of free community college, and “environmental justice.”

This bloated budget resolution is irresponsible, to say the least, and will only increase the dependence of individuals on government handouts. Voting in favor of this massive tax and spend resolution is wrong for Americans now and will contribute to financial hardship for Americans in the future.
