On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to support the Coronavirus Public Safety and Economic Recovery Act, H.R. 6664. Introduced by Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.), the Coronavirus Public Safety and Economic Recovery Act would create a commission to develop guidelines related to COVID-19 health practices, make recommendations to states to improve COVID-19 health practices, develop a program to educate state and local governments and businesses, and create a liability shield for businesses that adhere to the guidelines and recommendations provided by the commission.

As each week under lockdown passes, the dire statistics measuring the devastation of the COVID-19 pandemic only increase in magnitude. These measurements, however, are not solely detailing the lives lost to the virus. FreedomWorks, in an effort to better understand our audience’s concerns and struggles throughout this pandemic, conducted its sixth survey on the COVID-19 crisis this past Friday.

FreedomWorks is proud to announce that our bill of the month for May 2020 is the Verified Innovative Testing in American Laboratories (VITAL) Act, S. 3512. The bill, introduced by Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and cosponsored by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), clarifies that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has no regulatory authority over lab-developed testing procedures, during a public health emergency or at any other time.

On behalf of FreedomWorks’ activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to cosponsor the Coronavirus Regulatory Repeal Act, H.R. 6691, introduced by Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas). The Coronavirus Regulatory Repeal Act would ensure that any federal regulation repealed or modified during the coronavirus pandemic is permanently repealed the day after the expiration of the national emergency period.

1) Trump Administration to Continue Deregulating Small Businesses

The coronavirus pandemic, now going into its eighth week, has exposed so many flaws in our nation’s healthcare system. We have shortages of doctors and nurses because of restrictive licensing requirements. We have a shortage of equipment because of trade barriers stemming the flow of materials from abroad. We also have a shortage of money because of our government’s reckless spending on other nonsense over the years.
