Key Vote NO on the CR/Minibus, H.R. 6157

On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to vote NO on the Defense, Labor, and Health and Human Services (HHS) minibus, H.R. 6157. In addition to spending profligately on programs included in the minibus, it also includes a short-term continuing resolution (CR) for remaining appropriations bills into fiscal year 2019.

FreedomWorks’ Bill of the Month for July 2018: National Debt is a Threat to National Security, H.Res. 919

FreedomWorks is proud to announce that our bill of the month for June 2018 is H.Res. 919, sponsored by Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.). The resolution, which has 36 cosponsors, would recognize that our unsustainable national debt poses a true threat to the security of our country. This simple fact is too often ignored by those who claim to be fiscal conservatives, yet use increased defense funding as an excuse to vote for higher and higher spending levels each year.

Not with That Attitude, Boehner!

“[W]ithout a Republican in the White House, or 60 votes in the Senate, there are limits to what you could accomplish.” That was House Speaker John Boehner in an exclusive interview with Politico, defending his lack of gumption as a leader. Complaints from members of the House Freedom Caucus and other conservatives in Congress that Boehner has been unwilling to fight the hard fights and capitalize on referendums from the 2010 and 2014 elections have the Speaker playing defense, but his comments rather miss the point.

Once Again, the Establishment Cries Foul Over a Stand for Principle

The "CRomnibus" government funding bill passed handily last weekend, but not before Senators Lee and Cruz had their say. In a controversial move, the two senators managed to put their colleagues on record voting for or against funding President Obama's latest unconstitutional executive power grab. Many Republican senators, however, protest too much, claiming that Lee and Cruz may have allowed the Democrats to pass a number of executive nominees because of their insistence upon making their point.

The (CR)Omnibus Process Has Been Another Congressional Disgrace

Congress, apparently in a race to more thoroughly deserve its abysmal approval ratings, has conducted a tremendous exercise in bad government this past week. The omnibus funding bill that is set to keep the government paid for through September 2015 has been crafted largely in secret, and once again left lawmakers with only a couple of days to sort through what had been changed in over a thousand pages of text. This is not a rational way to run a government.

Spending deal blocks the Obama administration from using taxpayer funds to bail out health insurers

There are plenty of provisions in the newly released $1.014 trillion hybrid spending bill, dubbed the "CROmnibus," that are unwise, wasteful, and bad public policy. There are, however, some policy victories tucked away in the more than 1,600-page document, among them a provision that blocks the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services from using taxpayer funds to bailout health insurance companies that participate in ObamaCare.
