FreedomWorks is proud to announce that our bill of the month for June 2018 is H.Res. 919, sponsored by Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.). The resolution, which has 36 cosponsors, would recognize that our unsustainable national debt poses a true threat to the security of our country. This simple fact is too often ignored by those who claim to be fiscal conservatives, yet use increased defense funding as an excuse to vote for higher and higher spending levels each year.
FreedomWorks recognizes Rep. Dave Brat (R-Va.) as member of the month for May 2018. He proudly represents Virginia’s 7th Congressional District, located in the Piedmont region of the state to the west of its capital city of Richmond. Before entering the political sphere, Rep. Brat was a professor of economics for nearly two decades at Randolph-Macon College just outside of the district he now represents.
On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and him or her to support the Health Savings Account Expansion Act, H.R. 247, introduced by Rep. Dave Brat (R-Va.). The bill would increase contribution limits for health savings accounts (HSAs) and would, for the first time, allow consumers to pay insurance premiums from their HSAs.
FreedomWorks today announced the FreedomFighter Award winners for 2016. The FreedomFighter Awards recognize members of the House and Senate who consistently vote to support economic freedom and individual liberty. FreedomWorks President Adam Brandon and FreedomWorks Vice President of Legislative Affairs Jason Pye presented the awards Wednesday afternoon at the Capitol Visitors Center. Photos of the individual presentations are available here.
More than 700 FreedomWorks activists braved the cold to join Sens. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), and Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Reps. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Dave Brat (R-Va.) for a rally to repeal Obamacare. Over 1,000 activists are heading to lobby their Members of Congress.
FreedomWorks is proud to name Rep. Dave Brat (R-VA) as the Congressman of the Month for December 2016. Rep. Brat has tirelessly advocated for less regulation and a more comprehensive and responsible budget. In September, he voted against a stop-gap spending bill that would fund the federal government through December 9 because it would come at a time when Congress was at their least accountable, would skyrocket the federal deficit, and leave entitlement reform out of the picture.
FreedomWorks today announced that Rep. Dave Brat (R-Va.) signed the Pro-Growth Pledge. The pledge is a statement of principles showing the signer’s commitment to economic growth through fundamental tax reform, reductions in spending, regulatory reform, sound money, energy freedom, and patient-centered health care. The full text of FreedomWorks’ Pro-Growth Pledge is available here.
In an attempt to expand the use of health savings accounts (HSAs), Rep. Dave Brat (R-Va.) and Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) have introduced the Health Savings Account Expansion Act of 2016 (H.R. 5324 in the House and S. 2980 in the Senate). This legislation will expand and simplify the popular HSAs that put Americans in charge of their healthcare.
FreedomWorks today announced a new Freedom Caucus Initiative that will support and defend members of the House Freedom Caucus and like-minded Members of Congress dedicated to the advancement of conservative, pro-freedom policies.
As one of our over 6.9 million FreedomWorks activists nationwide, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to vote YES on the Brat amendment to the 21st Century Cures Act, H.R. 6. This amendment would make new funding for the NIH and Cures Innovation Fund discretionary, instead of the mandatory spending now proposed.
