On Monday, I was pleased to join FreedomWorks activists from South Carolina's 5th District as they met with their congressman, Mick Mulvaney. Activists thanked Congressman Mulvaney for standing for them and for standing with the House Freedom Caucus. Congressman Mulvaney joined us for a breakfast meeting at the Anna J restaurant in Rock Hill.
Today, FreedomWorks hosted the first in a series of events to promote members of the House Freedom Caucus, a group of about 40 fiscally conservative and liberty-minded Members from across the country. The tour kicked off on Monday, October 12 with an event in Rock Hill, South Carolina with Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC-5).
Following comments from House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) referring to freedom fighting Members of Congress as "right-wing Marxists" and claiming that "the Freedom Caucus is an arm of Pelosi," FreedomWorks CEO Adam Brandon responded:
FreedomWorks today announced a new Freedom Caucus Initiative that will support and defend members of the House Freedom Caucus and like-minded Members of Congress dedicated to the advancement of conservative, pro-freedom policies.
Mahatma Gandhi is reported to have said: “First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they attack you. Then you win.” It’s hard not to feel like the freedom movement is entering stage three. That is encouraging, insofar as it moves us closer to stage four, but it’s nevertheless a challenge, and one we should take seriously.
A group of liberty-minded House Republicans made waves in late January when they announced that they were leaving the Republican Study Committee to form a new invitation-only caucus that will focus exclusively on presenting and advancing an agenda grounded in limited government and the Constitution.
