Liquor Stores Are Essential, But Not For The Reasons You Think

While many states like New York and Texas have been hard at work attempting to aid restaurants and other small businesses by taking such deregulatory measures as allowing the delivery of alcohol, Pennsylvania has decided to go in the opposite direction. Instead of expanding operations of liquor stores, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) -- the three-member panel with total control over Pennsylvania’s state-controlled liquor industry -- has closed all the liquor stores in Pennsylvania.

Executive Orders Reveal State Greed on Liquor Stores

This week, both Virginia Governor Ralph Northam (D) and North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper (D) announced statewide executive orders for their states regarding policy and practice as our nation deals with the novel coronavirus. Each governor made different calls for their states’ schools, with Virginia closing all K-12 schools for the remainder of the year and North Carolina extending its public school closure through May 15. Both states limited gathering sizes and mandated the closure of nonessential retail businesses.
