Last Friday, the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) within the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) closed the extended public comment period for their proposal to reform broad-based categorical eligibility for food stamps. The FreedomWorks Foundation's Regulatory Action Center (RAC) submitted formal comments to the Center for Medicare Services (CMS) to urge greater oversight of Organ Procurement Organizations (OPO). These OPOs essentially have a government-granted monopoly on organ recovery. However, they routinely waste taxpayer dollars and leave many struggling to receive organs that should have easily been obtained.
