On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your senators and ask them to cosponsor the Earmark Elimination Act, S. 501, introduced by Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) and nine of his colleagues, Sens. Toomey, Lee, Paul, Johnson, Lankford, Ernst, Cruz, Portman, and Rubio. The bill would make permanent the temporary moratorium on congressional earmarks by creating a point of order against any provision in a bill that matches the definition of an earmark.

FreedomWorks is proud to honor Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) as our member of the month for November 2020. Representing the state of Montana, which is one of nine states with a split Senate delegation, Senator Daines serves his state alongside the far inferior Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.). Always a staunch defender of liberty, it is no surprise that Sen. Daines’ slogan is “More Jobs. Less Government.” We could not agree more, and we thank the senator for standing up for his principles.

On March 15, the authority for Section 215 of the USA PATRIOT Act formally expired. This is one of the provisions that spawned the Edward Snowden leaks back in 2013 and drew the American people’s attention to the scope of abuses perpetrated by the intelligence community. Though some reforms have been made, many in Congress still stand by the program despite the revelations.

Steve Daines (R-Mont.) and Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and Reps. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) and Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), the Competitive Health Insurance Reform Act would help lower the cost of health insurance coverage for Americans by eliminating the antitrust exemption that the health insurance industry currently has under the McCarran-Ferguson Act of 1945.

The bill would reauthorize the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program while instituting much-needed reforms and accountability measures, which will help lift vulnerable Americans out of poverty and into sustainable, well-paying jobs.
