FreedomWorks' Member of the Month for February 2020: Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.)

FreedomWorks is proud to honor Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) as our member of the month for February 2020. Representing the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the United States Senate since 2011, Sen. Toomey becomes our first-ever senator to be recognized as member of the month. This is well-deserved, as his principles, intellect, and compassion suit him well to represent his constituents and defend liberty, on everything from healthcare and taxes to trade and spending.

Do-Nothing Democrats Need to Work With GOP and Pass USMCA

BY Adam Brandon

Much has been made in the media about uncertainty regarding our nation’s trade policy. Stories of those harmed by the trade tensions between the United States and China, as well as by the tensions between the U.S. and its North American neighbors, permeate the news cycles. Last Minute Alterations Jeopardize USMCA Balance

If we have learned one thing since January 20, 2017, it is that congressional Democrats will tie themselves into knots to oppose President Trump. We’ve also learned that the President’s opponents bristle at his self-proclaimed “America First” agenda. These trends have once again reared their ugly heads when it comes to the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

Congress Should Approve USMCA and Reclaim Its Authority Over Trade

BY Jason Pye

Congress needs to step up and approve the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement to ensure a stable economic future with our neighbors. Just as importantly, Congress must pass legislation like the Bicameral Congressional Trade Authority Act, H.R. 940 and S. 287, to restore its constitutional authority over trade.

The USMCA is a Bad Trade Deal, But It's Not All Bad

As the newly-negotiated trade agreement between the United States, Mexico, and Canada (USMCA) came to light, pundits and politicians rushed to process what the re-negotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) meant for global trade. The best, most level-headed take likely came from Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.), who said via Twitter that the agreement is “marginally better in some ways and materially worse in some ways.”
