Tax Hikes on the Horizon

Opinion Journal’s Pete DuPont sees taxes as the single most important issue leading up to the 2008 presidential elections. While most Republican candidates seek an extension of President Bush’s 2003 tax cuts, the major Democratic candidates are pushing for tax hikes on income, an increase in the alternative minimum tax rate and a rate increase on capital gains and dividends. This despite CBO reports of 8 million news jobs created and a 3.3% yearly GDP growth since the tax cuts were enacted.
