FreedomWorks in Action at Liberal Democrat Social Security “Hearing”

FreedomWorks staff attended the Senate Democratic Policy Committee Hearing on Capitol Hill on January 28, 2005. The topic was President Bush’s plans to reform Social Security, but much of the discussion was an attempt to deny reality and claim that a Social Security crisis doesn’t even exist. FreedomWorks calls these Senators the new “Ostrich Caucus”.

The event was a clearly partisan undertaking, with panels that included the AARP, President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s grandson, and disgruntled Social Security Administration employees. The “hearing” was also timed to exclude GOP Senators, who are out of town attending a scheduled retreat. Fortunately, FreedomWorks advance staffers were on the scene, providing reporters with issue background and quotes from prominent Democrats like Bill Clinton and Tom Daschle, both of whom at least of publicly admit a crisis exists.
