FreedomWorks Discusses Energy Policy with Rep. David Price

Freedom Works activists from Orange county, NC met at Rep. David Price's office in Chapel Hill, NC.  In the absence of Rep. Price we spoke with his legislative assistant to express our opposition to the current legislation being debated in the US. House.

Our focus as was on H.R. 2776, The Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Tax Act being considered by Congress.  This legislation would target US oil and gas industries with increased taxes.  This legislation would have negative affects: diverting food products to ethanol production, higher cost for consumers, discouraging fossil fuel exploration, and making the US less globally competitive.

Another item of concern is the supposed scientific evidence that human produced carbon dioxide emissions are the major contributor of adverse climate changes.  Under a proposed program the government would license targeted industries with a cap on allowable CO2 emissions and allow the targeted industries to trade emission credits.  This would create a new commodities market.  We believe that this program would result in increased cost, which the consumer would ultimately pay.

Higher taxes are not the way to energy independence; allowing free market exploration is the best approach.
