Tell Your Representatives to Sign Onto Letter to Stop the EPA from Regulating Greenhouse Gases

Dear FreedomWorks member,

As one of our million-plus FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge to contact your representative and ask him or her to sign onto a letter written by the leaders of the House Energy and Commerce Committee urging the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to stop the regulation of Greenhouse Gas (GHS) through New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) expected to come out soon.

The body of the letter reads as follows:

EPA is attempting to regulate GHGs under the Clean Air Act, despite Congress rejecting the regulation of GHGs on three occasions since passage of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments.  During a hearing in the House Energy and Commerce Committee last year, Dr. Margo Thorning, Senior Vice President and Chief Economist at American Council for Capital Formation, testified that the first wave of EPA’s greenhouse gas regulations could result in as many as 1,400,000 job losses.

Unfortunately, EPA’s regulations are already having a devastating impact.  We’re already seeing coal-fired electricity plants close and electricity rates skyrocket because of EPA’s regulations.  The GHG standard will make matters much worse.  Only recently, one utility announced that they would be retiring six plants in their fleet due in part to environmental regulations.  This decision directly affects over 500 employees, and thousands of customers in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Maryland who will be paying higher electricity rates as a result.  In addition, a recent USA Today article claimed that electricity rates have skyrocketed in the past five years, resulting in nearly a $300 price increase for households.”

We must act before it’s too late. Please contact your representative and urge him or her to sign onto a letter written by the leaders of the House Energy and Commerce Committee urging the EPA to stop the additional regulations currently moving through the Office of Management and Budget.

Sincerely,

Matt Kibbe
