Hating Breitbart: An Interview With Director Andrew Marcus

While guest hosting on the Jayne Carroll Radio Show on www.kuik.com this week, I had the privilege of interviewing Andrew Marcus, director of the new documentary on the life, ascension and pioneering spirit of Andrew Breitbart (official film website here).

We talked about what the film was all about, we spoke about what each of us were doing when we heard of Andrew’s untimely and far too early death, and we discussed how Andrew Breitbart changed political reporting forever.

Here are just a couple of highlights:

Q: What is the film all about?

AM: We had the opportunity to follow AB around for 2 ½ years. We document the story behind the scenes, from the ACORN story through WeinerGate. AB said that the media class is the wall we have to climb over in order for our voices to be heard. You have to devise a strategy to break through the liberal media to have your story heard. That’s why he rolled out the ACORN stories the way that he did. That’s why he made that famous video telling the Occupiers to stop raping people and to behave themselves. He was climbing over the media wall, and he was vilified and hated. We were in the right place at the right time to capture this tactic of vilification and destruction and character assasination aimed at Andrew and aimed at the Tea Party.

Q: I imagine that you got a lot of footage of the leftists and the mainstream media and the political political culture  tearing AB down and saying that he can’t be trusted.

AM: Absolutely. It was done repeatedly. They try to attach a meme to those that are counter to their narrative. Which AB certainly was. Andrew would say, “If you want to capture the left for the way that they truly are, all you have to do is three things: Pick up a camera, turn it on, and aim it at them.”

The film will be released in limited distribution on October 12.
