An Unserious Budget from an Unserious President

Following the release of President Obama’s budget proposal for fiscal year 2017, FreedomWorks CEO Adam Brandon commented:

“This budget is just more of the same from President Obama: more spending, more taxes, and more debt. It’s an unserious budget proposal from an unserious president. This White House continues to double down on policies that have failed to produce robust economic growth. What growth Americans have seen has been lackluster. The 94 million Americans who aren’t in the workforce are a reminder that President Obama’s economic plans have been a tragic failure.”

“Republicans in Congress have an obligation to produce a budget that presents a contrast between the limited government, pro-growth principles in which they claim to believe and the big government, bureaucrat-driven policies of the Obama administration. Republicans can offer such a contrast is by restoring the spending caps eliminated by John Boehner. The spending caps were the only meaningful check on spending and deficits since Republicans took control of the House in 2011.”

“Those who are lecturing fiscal conservatives to support a rumored Republican establishment budget that busts the budget caps fail to grasp the seriousness of our economic difficulties. In response to President Obama’s awful budget proposal, congressional Republicans must fight for spending restraint. The national debt is now above $19 trillion and there are tens of trillions of dollars in unfunded liabilities. This budget battle is about the future of America and whether we’re going to see a resurgence of economic prosperity for all through pro-growth policies.”
