Regulatory State Hurting Americans, Preventing Economy from Living up to Potential

Following the release of the mission statement for the House Task Force on Reducing Regulatory Burdens, FreedomWorks CEO Adam Brandon commented:

“House Republicans are taking up an incredibly important issue. The regulatory state doesn’t spare any American or business from its reach. With a price tag of $1.9 trillion annually, if the regulatory state were its own country, it would be in the top ten of world economies – larger than those of Russia, Canada, and Australia. The House Task Force on Reducing Regulatory Burdens’ mission statement offers positive signs that Speaker Ryan and the committee chairmen involved understand that overregulation is hurting Americans and businesses and preventing our economy from living up to its full potential.”

“Though it has taken President Obama’s obsession with his ‘pen and phone’ and contempt for the proper constitutional lawmaking process to focus attention on this issue, overregulation has been a problem regardless of which party controls Congress and the White House. We hope that Speaker Ryan and House Republicans will remain committed to alleviating the burden of regulations on businesses and consumers – including the task force’s promise to do away with federal regulation of matters best addressed by state and local governments – no matter which party controls the White House after this year.”
