Key Vote YES on H.R. 699, the Email Privacy Act

As one of our over 5.7 million FreedomWorks activists nationwide, I urge you to contact your representative and ask them to vote YES on H.R. 699, the Email Privacy Act, a bill that would make needed updates to the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) passed by Congress 30 years ago. The bill is expected to be considered on the House floor tomorrow, Wednesday, April 27.

The legislation would amend ECPA to protect the privacy of email communications by requiring a warrant to access emails and other covered electronic communications by American citizens that are in the custody of a service provider and more than 180 days old. H.R. 699 passed the House Judiciary Committee by a unanimous vote. This legislation is an important step in protecting the Fourth Amendment rights of Americans against unreasonable searches and seizures and updating our laws for the 21st Century.

Please contact your representatives and ask that they vote YES on H.R. 699, the Email Privacy Act. FreedomWorks will count the vote on this bill as a Key Vote when calculating our Congressional Scorecard for 2016. The scorecard is used to determine eligibility for the FreedomFighter Award, which recognizes Members of Congress who consistently vote to support economic freedom and individual liberty.

Sincerely,

Adam Brandon
