FreedomWorks’ Statement on President Trump’s Prison Reform Speech

Washington, DC- Speaking at a White House prison reform summit, President Trump called on Congress to pass a prison reform bill for him to sign now, not later.

FreedomWorks president Adam Brandon, who attended the summit, commented:

"The President’s message is clear, now is the time for the House and Senate to move on prison reform. The President knows Congress has an opportunity to build on the successes of more than 30 states to reduce recidivism and enhance public safety."

"The House must pass the FIRST STEP Act, a bill that would incentivize offenders to become productive, tax-paying citizens. The Senate is always a challenge when it comes to President Trump’s legislative priorities, but Senate Republicans cannot fail on this. It’s in America’s best interest to get prison reform across the finish line this year."
