FreedomWorks Statement in Response to House Passage of Yemen War Powers Resolution

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the House passing H.J.Res. 37, a resolution to halt U.S. military operations in Yemen, Noah Wall, FreedomWorks Vice President of Advocacy, commented:

“FreedomWorks commends the House for passing the Yemen War Powers Resolution that will begin to restore the proper separation of powers when it comes to warmaking. The framers of our Constitution rightly vested the power to declare war with the legislative branch. America’s habit of entering into undeclared, unconstitutional military conflicts must come to an end.

“As President Trump rightly pointed out in his State of the Union speech, ‘Great nations do not fight endless wars.’ Our nation is approaching trillion dollar deficits and has just eclipsed $22 trillion in national debt. We can no longer afford to spend trillions on wars that are entered into without substantive congressional debate. We hope the Senate will take this up and pass it quickly, and that President Trump will fulfill his promise and sign it into law.”
