FreedomWorks Stands by Reps. Chip Roy and Thomas Massie’s Decisions to Block Disaster Relief Package

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to Reps. Chip Roy (R-Texas) and Thomas Massie’s (R-Ky.) decisions to block the House from passing the Supplemental Appropriations Act, H.R. 2157, a disaster relief package, without any debate, Jason Pye, FreedomWorks Vice President of Legislative Affairs, commented:

“FreedomWorks stands by Reps. Roy and Massie’s recent objections to the disaster relief package which House Democratic leadership attempted to push through without debate, a floor vote, or even more than a few members present at all. This sort of behavior by House leadership is emblematic of the swamp culture that Reps. Roy and Massie came to Washington to stop.

“The funding in the disaster relief package is not offset and would increase the U.S. national debt. Americans deserve fiscal accountability from their representatives in Washington, and the fact that this bill would have advanced without a vote demonstrates that Congress is more concerned with getting out of town for the long weekend than doing the job they were elected to do.”
