FreedomWorks Urges Congress to Build Off Trump Administration’s Liability Shield EO

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to President Trump’s executive order today that seeks to implement a liability shield for meat-packing businesses, Jason Pye, FreedomWorks’ Vice President of Legislative Affairs, commented:

"This executive order is a step in the right direction, but it’s very limited. Congress needs to act to implement a liability shield for businesses. With some states taking steps to reopen their economies, businesses will be looking for a measure of protection against a likely wave of frivolous lawsuits. A liability shield that meets certain criteria — such as temperature checks and social distancing in the workplace — would help give businesses some confidence as they pick up the pieces from the economic disruptions caused by COVID-19."
