FreedomWorks Statement in Response to House Democrats’ $2.2 Trillion Stimulus Proposal

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to House Democrats’ recently proposed $2.2 trillion Coronavirus relief package, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“The massive $2.2 trillion package recently proposed by House Democrats incentivizes state governments to overspend, municipalities to keep blanket shutdowns in place, and Americans to stay out of the job market. Of course, in tonight’s debate, Joe Biden will attempt to paint a rosy picture of the failed Obama years, when government stimulus slowed the nation’s recovery from the 2008 collapse. Democrats are attempting to replicate those eight years of anemic two percent economic growth with this newest proposal.

“Democrats’ newest multi-trillion dollar stimulus bill is possibly the worst idea since their last proposal, which is in fact saying a lot. The stimulus bill is once again a wish list of Democratic campaign promises, including another expanded round of stimulus checks, a reinstated $600 federal unemployment benefit on top of state payments, as well as a $456 billion dollar bailout for fiscally irresponsible cities and states.

“Additionally, the bill dishonestly includes agreeable non-COVID-related provisions such as smart-on-crime criminal justice reforms that should be considered separately, not bundled into a partisan package meant to do nothing more than stir controversy and erode goodwill on meaningful issues.

“Thanks to bipartisan negligence, the federal deficit for this year now stands at more than $3.1 trillion. Democrats’ bill would have dire implications for the United States’ fiscal, economic, and political health if passed.”
