FreedomWorks Statement in Response to Renewed COVID-19 Spending Negotiations

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to recent coronavirus relief spending proposals, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“Government spending cannot pave the way to prosperity. In fact, it does exactly the opposite. The last thing we should be doing right now as a country is adding to this year’s over $3 trillion deficit and further ballooning our already out-of-control $27 trillion national debt.

“We urge Republicans in Congress to reject another unnecessary coronavirus spending package and refrain from negotiations with the likes of Minority Leader Schumer and Speaker Pelosi. For too long, lawmakers have chosen to ignore our country’s debt problem, pushing it down the line to create an inevitable future fiscal catastrophe. But with trillions of taxpayer dollars having already been added to the deficit in just this year alone, we cannot afford to put smart fiscal policy on the backburner any longer.

“At minimum, any further policy actions with regards to coronavirus should be pro-growth oriented, fully offset, and focused on getting Americans back to work safely.”
