Key Vote NO on the Caring for Americans with Supplemental Help (CASH) Act, H.R. 9051

On behalf of FreedomWorks’ activist community, I urge you to contact your senators and ask them to vote NO on the Caring for Americans with Supplemental Help (CASH) Act, H.R. 9051. The CASH Act would amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to increase the direct payments included in the COVID-19 relief provisions of the recently passed Consolidated Appropriations Act from $600 to $2,000.

It should go without saying that FreedomWorks is fervently opposed to the passage of the CASH Act. Direct payments are not now, and have never been, an effective method of economic relief for American families. On the contrary, direct payments are generally used to pay off debts, doing nothing to increase consumption or significantly benefit the economy.

What’s more, not a dime of the hundreds of millions set to be distributed under the CASH Act will do anything to help get the 10.7 million unemployed Americans back to work. This is where Congress should focus its efforts.

We had hoped that Congress might have learned from the failure of the CARES Act, but the actions of the House last evening showed that not to be the case. The passage of the CASH Act in the House of Representatives is further indication that our country is being steered ever closer toward implementing universal basic income (UBI) on top of existing income transfer programs.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic effects have deeply harmed the financial health of millions of Americans, Congress can ill afford to abandon fiscal reason when faced with already historic deficits. Congress already appropriated billions in direct payments earlier this month on top of trillions of dollars in additional stimulus throughout the year.

FreedomWorks will count the vote for the CASH Act, H.R. 9051, on our 2020 Congressional Scorecard and reserves the right to score any amendments, motions, or other related votes. We also reserve the right to weigh votes. The scorecard is used to determine eligibility for the FreedomFighter Award, which recognizes Members of the House and Senate who consistently vote to support economic freedom and individual liberty.

Sincerely,

Adam Brandon,
President, FreedomWorks
