FreedomWorks Foundation Statement in Opposition to the Broadband Provisions of the “Bipartisan” Infrastructure Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the recently revealed provisions of the “bipartisan” infrastructure deal related to broadband, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“The broadband provisions included in the so-called ‘bipartisan’ infrastructure bill are a disastrous grab-bag of big government policies. From rate regulation to support for government owned networks (GON’s), no self-respecting conservative should support this package.

“Supposed ‘bipartisanship’ has been used as a Trojan horse to convince Republicans to support policies that are antithetical to small-government principles.

“Closing the digital divide is an essential goal for spurring economic growth and prosperity in our country, and the private sector has made–and will continue to make–remarkable strides toward this goal. The way to connect Americans is not through expanded bureaucracy and more red tape. Merely throwing money at the problem isn’t a tenable solution either. Republican members should see this infrastructure deal for what it is and strongly voice their opposition to these socialist policies.”
