FreedomWorks Opposes Latest FISA Reauthorization Bill

FreedomWorks Vice President of Legislative Affairs Jason Pye released the following statement on the FISA Amendments Reauthorization Act:

"The revised version of the FISA Amendments Reauthorization Act is a constitutional abomination — a blatant infringement on the Fourth Amendment. It’s tiring to hear Republicans say that they believe in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights when it’s so clear they really don’t.

"This bill would codify the backdoor search, which allows the FBI to search the 702 database for U.S. persons under an unconstitutional standard for domestic criminal offenses, and provides a path for the NSA to restart ‘about’ collections, which it was previously forced to end because of constitutional concerns.

"A vote for this bill is a vote against the Fourth Amendment. We strongly urge the House to defeat it when and if it reaches the floor."

FreedomWorks will key vote against the FISA Amendments Reauthorization Act on our 2018 Congressional Scorecard and reserves the right to score related votes. The scorecard is used to determine eligibility for the FreedomFighter Award, which recognizes Members of the House and Senate who consistently vote to support economic freedom and individual liberty.
