When children are trapped in failing California schools, parents are empowered to execute the “parent trigger” option. Parent trigger has been in effect in California since 2010 and allows parents to turn an existing failing school into a charter school, replace employees, or close the school entirely. In Adelanto, California, parents chose to go this route and turn a local elementary into a charter school, and it turned into quite the debacle. Once the parent trigger was invoked, the school district defied the law. Now, finally, a charter school has been chosen to help these kids get on the path to a better education. I thought that the twists and turns of this crazy story were in the past, but alas, I was wrong.

As a professional in the oil and gas industry, Susan Fakharzadeh was looking for fun a way to engage more women in issues related to energy, especially fracking. Her goal was “to take out some of the volatility associated with the word...I wanted to take back the word ‘frack’ so that it wasn’t always associated with something negative.” Thus, Chicks Dig Fracking was born.

Let’s be honest: by now, we were supposed to have flying cars. Do you see any flying cars? No, nor do I. What’s worse is that people seem to think that they’re the top priority in automotive technology. The U.S. Department of Transportation wants cars to be able to “talk” to each other by 2017. It’s Big Brother’s Dream come true.

I don’t want to shock our readers but, occasionally, liberals can be inconsistent. They can be, if one dares use the term, hypocritical. This latest example came to my attention as I was researching a recent piece on the case the Supreme Court is hearing with regards to unions. 

Things aren’t looking so good for big unions in the United States. School choice has teachers’ unions running scared and right to work is, well, working. As unions lose their strongholds around the country, they are looking for more ways to shore up their power. An upcoming case at the Supreme Court, though, might chip away at said power even more. 

It’s not really a secret that Detroit isn’t doing well.

The idea of one-size-fits-all education is being discredited at the same time Common Core endorses that very idea. Common Core seeks to put schools even further into a box, and that is one of the reasons that non-traditional forms of schooling are gaining in popularity.

Fracking is one of those issues that gets people really riled up, and almost always, the most prominent and vocal detractors have no idea what they’re talking about. Those who study the issue and follow the science tend to support fracking. Recently, we have been given another reason to do so: the very water which fracktivists claim is harmed by fracking. 

For many teachers, their job is a calling. It is what they love to do, a profession for which they have worked and studied, and at which they want to continue. What happens, then, when a good teacher is forced to give money to a group which she opposes in order to keep her job? In the case of California’s Rebecca Friedrichs, she is fighting back.
