Senate Set to Advance Flawed Cybersecurity Bill That Feeds Government Surveillance

This week, the Senate is set to finally take up its Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act (CISA), S. 754. In the wake of several high-profile international hacking events, CISA is being sold as an essential component of national cybersecurity. Unfortunately, not only does this bill not address the fundamental difficulties with protecting our critical data, it also creates perverse incentives for companies and adds further to the massive collection of our private data by government agencies.

FreedomWorks Scores Against Signers of Ex-Im Petition on Scorecard

Last Friday, 218 Members of the House (including 42 Republicans) made a sudden and uncommon move called a discharge petition to bring a re-authorization of the U.S. Export-Import Bank out of committee without a vote. Although GOP leadership in the Senate have indicated that they are unlikely to pass this specific bill, the tactic demonstrated that the House has the strength to revive the expired corporate welfare bank if the Senate were to reauthorize it in a separate bill.

An Early Glimpse into HillaryCare 2.0

Over twenty years after the spectacular failure of "HillaryCare", Hillary Clinton is back in the health care debate. The collection of modest proposals she has made recently gives us a glimpse into her vision for “HillaryCare, 2.0”. With ObamaCare already taking a huge step towards accomplishing her goal of total government control of health care, Hillary’s new, more measured approach is just to keep nudging current policies further in that direction.

Congressional Republicans Can't Afford to Get Pushed Around on Budget Caps

Congress is coming back to town, and that means it’s time to hide our wallets. If the leadership of both parties are left to their own devices, by the end of September the government’s spending will have increased once again. This outcome is by no means inevitable; indeed, it shouldn’t even be possible after the Republicans took solid control of both the House and Senate. It will be up to those principled leaders who do care about the financial peril our nation faces to put the brakes on any effort to speed up the government’s spending.

Physicians for Reform and FreedomWorks Team Up to Advance Free-Market Health Care Solutions

As ObamaCare continues to increase health care costs and wreak havoc upon the infrastructure of our health care system, physicians are at the front lines watching the damage first-hand. It is more important than ever that medical professionals who recognize the damage that government control is doing to their profession speak up and be among the loudest voices calling for reforms that re-center the practice of medicine where it belongs – at the relationship between individual doctors and patients.

Congress Must Defend the Budget Caps This Fall

Members of Congress are all back home for their August recess, and all is quiet on Capitol Hill – for now. But don’t be fooled; this is merely the calm before the storm that is coming in September, when Congress returns and has to pass a bill to fund the government by October 1st.

McConnell and Senate Republicans Breathe New Life into the Expired Ex-Im Bank

This afternoon, the Senate voted 67 to 26 to attach a reauthorization of the U.S. Export-Import Bank to the "must-pass" highway bill, choosing to represent lobbyists over the voters who put them in office. If this amendment makes it into law, the corporations which have spent so many millions of dollars to lobby for Ex-Im's resurrection will have Mitch McConnell to thank for it.
