The Obama Administration has finally admitted what we have been saying all along: Obamacare doesn't work. Unfortunately their remedy is not good enough -- delaying the individual mandate for some, but not for all.
In several recents decisions, and active cases, the Judicial Branch appears to be coming to its collective senses and restraining the unconstitutional expansion of government's already unsustainable power. Whether it's the NSA's invasion of our privacy, the disregard for religious liberty under Obamacare, or the $800 billion tax increase levied by the IRS, judges seem to be saying enough is enough.
Much of the programming of the healthcare.gov was copied from other people. That's not a scandal, because the original creators of the software licensed it for public use. But it should be a scandal that any of the code for the site is hidden away from public view and inspection under the guise of security. All of the code for healthcare.gov should be freely available to the public.
By imposing a minimum amount of insurance coverage, Obamacare limits the freedom of Americans to make their own choices. The government "minimum essential benefits" is denying health insurance to many who would like to have it. That's always the case with government minimums: they hurt those on the bottom the most.
Recent testimony before Congress has revealed that more than six weeks after launch, the administration is not ready to perform key operations of Obamacare. The backend payment system for delivering subsidies to insurers has not yet been built. There is no way for any of them to pretend they didn't know it wasn't ready.
In a move that is likely to cause even more disruption and uncertainty in the insurance market, the Obama administration has decided once again to alter unilaterally the sweeping Obamacare law, and, as is his habit, threatened to veto Congressional action that would make Americans more free.
Thanks to the high-profile efforts of Senators Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, and others, including the House majority, there is a stark contrast between the two major parties regarding Obamacare. One party is all-in for it, the other is indelibly etched in the public mind totally opposing it. Republicans would be foolish to change that, but even as Obamacare implodes, that's just what some are calling on them to do.
While some say the purpose of a political party is simply to win elections, I describe it differently. The purpose of a political party is to get out the vote for a platform. For most people, the most effective way to achieve getting out the vote is to volunteer in their own neighborhood with a political party, promoting a platform they support. With deadlines for all-important primaries coming up soon, there's no time to start like the present.
Would you like to start winning elections without compromising limited government principles? It wil take a little bit of cooperation, and probably some gritted teeth. You need to do as I have done, and join your local Republican committee.
